COMPOSITES
AGGLOMERATES blakdiam.gif (893 bytes) CONGLOMERATES

These are man-made precast stone products. They are composed of chips or larger
pieces of marble, limestone, granite, quartzite, sand or man-made materials, that are
cast in a resinous or cementous matrix.

They can provide consistency of material and color not readily available in nature.
There are product lines that also offer a wide selection of composition, patterns and
man-made colors not found naturally.

Some of these products maintain all the basic characteristics of natural stones used
with the exception of water absorption. This may increase because of the composition
of the binding matrix material.

                                   TERRAZZO

Terrazzo is generally marble and in some cases granite aggregate in a cementous or
resinous matrix that is usually cast in place and ground smooth. There are also resinous
terrazzo tiles available.

                           CULTURED MARBLE

Cultured marble is a mixture of resins with pigments and cast in molds. Some manufactures
also add marble power for durability. Cultured marble is not considered a stone product.
